VW has bet on the ID. series to launch its electric offensive, with the ID.3 leading a range that includes a wider array of options, such as an SUV, a crossover, and even the ID.Buzz, the new generation of the iconic Bread van.
However, the company based in Wolfsburg intends to continue its commitment to electric mobility, but now seems willing to abandon the ID designation. According to “news38.de”, VW CEO Thomas Schäfer announced the end of the ID. series during a company meeting, receiving applause from the team.
In the same publication, Schäfer also announced that a new electric subcompact will not follow the previous naming convention, meaning it will not be designated as VW ID.2., as according to the VW leader, the “iconic names” should not disappear.
It is worth noting that rumors about new names for VW’s future electric models have been circulating for some time. Some of these rumors suggest that the electric city car ID.2all, scheduled for release next year, may be designated as Polo, while the model based on ID.Every1 will be the next Up from VW.
