Volkswagen has announced that it has begun production of the Tayron, the brand’s new family SUV, at its factory in Wolfsburg, Germany.
The model, which replaces the Tiguan Allspace, offers five or seven-seat configurations and all-wheel drive in the top variants. It is based on the MQB Evo platform and features new-generation plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) powertrains that provide an electric range of over 100 kilometers. In addition to the electrified variants, the Tayron also includes gasoline and diesel engines.
The first Tayron to roll off the production line this week was a model in Ultra Violet Metallic, equipped with a 2.0-liter TDI engine and a panoramic roof. In the coming weeks, exhibition and demonstration vehicles for VW dealerships will be produced in Wolfsburg.
“The start of production of the Tayron marks an important milestone for the Wolfsburg plant. I am confident that our new SUV will continue the success of its predecessor, the Tiguan Allspace, and will significantly contribute to job security. Customers in China are already excited about this model, and the Tayron will also find many buyers in Europe,” said Jürgen Mahnkopf, Vice President of the Volkswagen General Council.
It is worth noting that the Tayron is the second largest SUV from the VW brand in Europe, following the Touareg, and will hit the market next spring.
