The automotive sector continues to work towards producing 100% electric low-cost cars, and VW has just announced that it plans to launch the ID.1 by 2027.
Thomas Schaefer, CEO of the German brand, mentioned during the annual conference, which took place on Thursday, that they are considering four development projects for the new electric model, which will offer affordable electric mobility for everyone, starting at a price of €20,000.
It is worth noting that VW plans to launch 11 new electric vehicles in the next three years, including the ID.2 announced for 2026 at a price of around €25,000 and models developed in collaboration with the Chinese manufacturer Xpeng for the Chinese market.
Furthermore, recently Renault has stated that they may partner with VW to produce a small 100% electric car for the European market.
This position comes at a time when European car manufacturers are trying to find a solution to offer low-cost electric vehicles, in order not to lose the electric mobility race to Chinese manufacturers.
