VW may be considering the possibility of producing an electric pick-up based on the Terra model from Scout, a brand that was revived by VW for the North American market, 44 years after the launch of the last model.
The Terra, like the SUV Traveler, both models from Scout, are based on a chassis with longitudinal beams and cross members, featuring a rigid rear axle, and incorporate an 800 V electric architecture. They are set to begin production by the North American brand starting in 2027.

According to “Autocar”, VW revealed plans in 2020 to launch a large off-road model, but the project has been repeatedly delayed. However, the idea may now gain traction, potentially based on the concept used by Scout for the Terra.
The technical chief of Scout, Burkhard Huhnke, told “Autocar” that “there is nothing in the VW Group similar to the base used by Scout of cross members and longitudinal beams”. Therefore, he does not rule out the possibility of it being used in other models within the VW Group.
The possibility of VW using the Scout platform to produce an electric all-terrain model could also help share development costs, as well as increase the utilization of the new Scout factory in South Carolina. The production unit of the American brand will be capable of producing up to 200,000 vehicles per year.
