The transformation of the VW factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, into an electric vehicle production unit may lead to the adoption of a four-day work week during the factory’s transition phase.
The statement was made by Daniela Cavallo, head of the workers’ committee, cited by “Reuters”, who also mentioned that the unions agreed to the minimal use of production capacity for the transition period but asked workers to take extra shifts before this phase to compensate for the likelihood of fewer working hours in the coming years.
“We need to make provisions now so that we can use them later. Starting in 2027, a temporary four-day week is not an irrational scenario”, said Cavallo during a workers’ assembly in Wolfsburg, which took place on Tuesday.
Daniela Cavallo tried to assure workers that the future of Wolfsburg is more secure considering the plans for the production of the 100% electric Golf at that factory, as well as the electric successor to the compact SUV T-Roc, which will take place by the end of the decade.
