More than 20,000 VW workers in Germany have so far agreed to accept voluntary departure from the company as part of the major restructuring that VW is undertaking aimed at cost reduction.
According to the human resources director, Gunnar Kilian, who spoke at a workers’ council meeting at the car manufacturer’s headquarters in Wolfsburg on Tuesday, as reported by “Reuters”, more than 20,000 workers have accepted the voluntary resignation offers, out of a total of 35,000 jobs that are expected to be eliminated by 2030, according to the agreement reached with the unions at the end of 2024.
Volkswagen plans to grant all employees who will leave the company a compensation based on their length of service. However, according to the German newspaper “Bild”, the company has not yet disclosed information about the total amount of the compensations.
