Logan Sargeant currently holds second place, but the 23-year-old driver has struggled in 2024 and finds himself at the bottom of the driver standings with zero points.
“I don’t want to tarnish what I believe is a truly positive message that we have someone committed to the long-term future of Williams,” Vowles told reporters on Thursday. “At the moment, I am considering approximately three options for 2025 and 2026. It’s as simple as that.
“When we reach a point where we can openly discuss, which won’t take long, we will do so,” he added.
Retaining Sargeant is considered one of these possibilities. However, the only American driver on the Formula 1 grid has failed to deliver consistent performances since joining the team in 2023.
“Logan has the power to ensure he performs at that level,” Vowles mentioned regarding the Florida native. “That is within his control. However, it is clear that we also need to start discussions with others, and that is what we are doing.”
Several reports have linked these discussions to Mercedes junior driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who currently competes in Formula 2.
Another possible option could be veteran F1 driver Valtteri Bottas, who currently drives for Sauber. Nico Hulkenberg is leaving Haas to join Sauber, which is transitioning to Audi in the 2026 season.
