The Volvo Group plans to lay off up to 800 employees at three facilities in the United States over the next three months due to market uncertainty and concerns about demand, stemming from tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to “Reuters,” which cites a statement from Volvo Group North America, the company intends to lay off between 550 and 800 people at its Mack Trucks unit in Macungie, Pennsylvania, and at two Volvo Group facilities in Dublin, Virginia, and Hagerstown, Maryland.
The company currently employs about 20,000 people in North America, and the layoffs announced now are the latest response from the automotive industry to cope with the tariffs imposed by the U.S. administration on the import of automobiles and parts, which threaten to increase the cost of vehicle production.
