Volvo Cars has postponed the start of large-scale production at the new factory under construction in Slovakia from 2026 to early 2027 in order to optimize the brand’s product launch schedule.
The company, based in Gothenburg and owned by the Chinese Geely Holding, has not yet announced which model will be produced at the factory in Kosice, but revealed that it is a next-generation vehicle.
In addition, Polestar, a brand also owned by Geely, announced this week that the next 100% electric SUV, Polestar 7, will be produced at the Kosice factory in 2028.
It is worth noting that the Volvo factory under construction in Slovakia will have the capacity to produce 250,000 vehicles annually, and in April, the returning CEO of Volvo Cars, Hakan Samuelsson, stated that the company was reviewing the models that will be built at the new facility and that it intended for the factory to also produce cars from other Geely brands, such as Polestar.
