Volkswagen will revive the offroad Scout vehicle brand for North America as a 100% electric brand, and has turned to the Austrian company Magna Steyr to develop the new models.
According to the Austrian newspaper ” Kleine Zeitung,” the specialist off-road vehicle manufacturer, which already produces the Mercedes-Benz G-Class in Graz, Austria, has established a contract with the Volkswagen Group to develop the new electric models for Scout, in a deal worth €450 million, according to the same source.
Development seems to be already underway, and everything points to the first two Scout models, a pickup truck and an SUV, being based on a new technical platform designed for pickup trucks and off-road vehicles within the Volkswagen Group. They are expected to be ready for production in 2026, according to the Austrian publication. It is worth noting that Scout gained notoriety in the 1960s for its off-road vehicles and was later absorbed by Navistar, which became part of the brand conglomerate of the Traton Group, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group that includes brands such as MAN and Scania.
