The regular Joe Gibbs Racing Cup driver was one of the few drivers to participate in the Xfinity series race before the Coca Cola 600. He drove the No:20 TRD Camry for JGR himself and had a successful race before colliding with JR Motorsports with only 25 laps remaining in the 200-lap race, the BetMGM 300.
On lap 75, coming out of turn four, Justin Allgaier in the Chevy No:7 was racing against three cars at the time and was in the middle lane, with Ty Gibbs on the outer lane behind him. As he exited the turn, he tried to move in front of the Toyota and take the lane, but he didn’t have enough space to make the maneuver successfully.

He made contact with Ty Gibbs, who had no space to avoid hitting the wall and the No:20. Allgaier spun and hit the wall, resulting in significant damage to his car. Justin Allgaier’s day ended with a 33rd place, the lowest among JRM drivers, while Gibbs, the 2022 Xfinity series champion, managed to secure a 9th place.
While the team manager in the pits was disappointed with his drivers’ results, he witnessed one of his former drivers in the winner’s circle. The 2020 Cup champion, who made his first start in the second division this season, won the race. He won the championship with Juniors’ team in 2014, which was his debut season.
During his post-race interview after being released from the circuit’s medical center, Allgaier mentioned that the contact was the result of a lack of communication between him and his spotter Eddie. He revealed that he believed he had a little more room on the outside when making the move.

The disappointing result may hinder the positive momentum that JRM’s driver gained after winning the Darlington race last week. Before the victory, the No. 7 Chevy had been experiencing ups and downs. As they head to Portland next week, they will be looking for a strong comeback after a well-deserved break.
