In a heart-stopping moment during the Formula 2 feature race at Baku City Circuit on Sunday, Indian driver Kush Maini found himself at the center of a terrifying crash. The incident unfolded on the opening lap, just ahead of the much-anticipated Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Maini, 23, was left stranded on the grid after his car’s engine suddenly failed at the start, triggering a catastrophic collision involving fellow drivers Josep Maria Marti and Oliver Goethe. As the field surged forward, Maini’s stationary car became an unavoidable obstacle, setting the stage for one of the most shocking moments of the weekend.
While Marti’s car took to the air and flipped dramatically, Goethe smashed into Maini’s car in a brutal impact. The severity of the crash caused the race to be immediately red-flagged, but miraculously, all drivers involved emerged unscathed.
The crash sent shockwaves through the paddock, and the swift response from safety personnel ensured that Maini and the other drivers received immediate medical attention. Despite the destruction on track, the race resumed after a 40-minute delay, with the drivers breathing a collective sigh of relief.
