From the Japanese Super Formula, an exceptionally spectacular accident occurred in Suzuka. Ukyo Sasahara and Hiroki Otsu were involved, but they came out without significant injuries, although Sasahara suffered a concussion.
In a direct fight for position in yesterday’s race, the two drivers collided at the fast 130R corner. Sasahara’s car was launched into the fence, and the safety cell (monocoque) crossed over the barrier and fell onto the lower part of the track in the Degner curves area. Remember that the 130R goes over a bridge.
The engine and gearbox were separated from Sasahara’s car. As for Otsu, he violently crashed into the barriers after crossing the gravel, but he never crossed the existing fence. Naturally, the race was interrupted with a red flag.
