Ross Chastain and Ryan Blaney had a confrontation at Bristol, similar to last year’s incident in Phoenix. The current NASCAR Cup champion reignited his rivalry with Chastain from Trackhouse Racing. The clash between the two started in the 2023 season finale, when Chastain aggressively blocked Blaney, despite not being in the Championship-4, ultimately winning the race.
Unfortunately, they had another encounter at Bristol Motor Speedway during the Food City 500. While battling for position, Chastain bumped into Blaney, causing him to lose his line and allowing Chastain to pass him. They made contact twice during this successful attempt by Chastain.
After the race, Blaney expressed his frustration with the incident with Chastain. He was tired of being asked about Chastain and refused to answer any more questions from journalists. He walked away and headed towards his garage.
Due to the contact and extreme tire wear, Blaney finished the race in 16th place, while Chastain managed to finish one position better, in 15th. Given the capabilities of Trackhouse and Penske, this is likely not the last confrontation between the two drivers.
Prior to the race, Chastain participated in a traffic safety initiative sponsored by the race title and local authorities. He visited Food City in Blountville and took part in an event organized by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office. Chastain urged racing fans to drive responsibly and emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts through demonstrations and discussions.
Chastain’s maneuver on Blaney during the race cannot be considered entirely unsafe, as the Next-Gen car is one of the safest race cars. However, it is crucial for Chastain to prioritize safety when taking risks on the track.
