Vídeo: Richard Petty e Kyle Petty discutem dirigir uma volta de 193 mph em Daytona sem equipamento de segurança.

In the 80s and 90s, the father and son duo were known for their intense presence on the race tracks. Richard Petty and Kyle Petty were formidable competitors during that period.

Safety measures in motorsports have significantly improved over the years. However, in the 70s and 80s, there was a lack of awareness regarding safety regulations among drivers. Richard and Kyle Petty shared a story on a podcast, recalling an incident in Daytona where the seven-time champion took his son for a ride without any seatbelts.

Richard Petty, also known as the ‘King’, first tested the car to ensure everything was in order. He then invited his son Kyle to join him. Together, they embarked on a high-speed journey around Daytona, reaching speeds of up to 193 mph without seatbelts or helmets.

The video shows the impressive moment when Kyle Petty held on as his father drove at an incredible speed of 193 mph. It is truly remarkable how safety precautions have changed since then.

The dangerous speeds at which they were traveling could have resulted in a catastrophic outcome. Dale Earnhardt Jr. expressed his surprise at this revelation. However, considering Kyle Petty was in the hands of one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers, the situation seemed less alarming to the NASCAR Hall of Famer.

When Richard Petty won his seventh and final Cup Series championship, a young rising star named Dale Earnhardt made his debut on the scene. Earnhardt would equal Petty’s championship record and leave his mark on the history books.

The octogenarian Petty met the young driver, Dale Earnhardt, for the first time at Martinsville Speedway in 1979. Petty recounted the incident to Dale Earnhardt Jr., explaining how their first interaction led to a collision that ended both drivers’ races. This incident left Petty with mixed feelings about his introduction to Earnhardt.

Overall, the story highlights the evolution of safety measures in motorsports and the encounters between legendary drivers like Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.
