Max Verstappen has always had a negative opinion about the Netflix series Drive to Survive from the beginning. It is widely known within the motorsport community that he despises the show. In fact, Verstappen announced in 2021 that he would no longer participate in it, causing quite a stir at the time. Surprisingly, before the Australian GP, the driver revealed the reasons behind his decision to distance himself from the popular Netflix production.
Although Formula 1 and other drivers acknowledge that Drive to Survive has played a significant role in attracting new fans to the sport, Max Verstappen remains steadfast in his stance against the program. The Dutchman has previously criticized the series for sensationalizing drivers’ statements and manufacturing stories out of thin air.
Recently, the reigning world champion clarified the main reason for his aversion to the successful series. Verstappen stated that he simply does not enjoy being part of Drive to Survive. He finds the experience of sitting in a dark room, participating in a one-sided conversation, and exclusively answering questions about Formula 1 unappealing. These factors led him to withdraw from the program and distance himself from it completely.
Speculation about a possible departure of Verstappen from Red Bull Racing reached its peak, with rumors suggesting a possible move to his archrivals. Amidst the turmoil in Milton Keynes, the 26-year-old driver finally broke his silence and put an end to all speculations about his future.
When asked about his future with Red Bull, Verstappen responded in a relaxed manner, affirming his loyalty to the Austrian team. He emphasized that he has a contract with Red Bull until 2028 and intends to stay with the team in the foreseeable future.
However, the ongoing issues at Red Bull have not yet been resolved, which could result in the loss of the team leader and potentially alienate other key members.
