Lemar Jakson arrived at the Charlote Motor Speedway this weekend to support Ryan Blaney, the previous winner of the Coco-Cola 600 race.
Ryan Blaney, the reigning champion of the NASCAR Cup Series, entered this weekend’s race at Charlote Motor Speedway with high expectations. He emerged victorious in last year’s Coco-Cola 600, ending a two-year winless streak and securing the Cup championship. He had a special supporter present, hoping for another consecutive win at CMS.
Lamar Jackson, the star quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens and NFL MVP in the previous season, was seen on the track wearing a T-shirt adorned with the number 12. The shirt prominently displayed Ryan Blaney’s name alongside the number 12 on the front, back, and sleeves. Jackson may have anticipated a win for his favorite driver, but was met with immense disappointment.
During the second stage of the race, Ryan Blaney made contact with the wall, resulting in damage to the wheel tie rod of his Ford Mustang Dark Horse number 12. The wheel got stuck and the Penske team couldn’t release it in time for Blaney to return to the track. Blaney did not finish the race and received a 39th position, three positions worse than his previous DNF at Darlington last week.
What a difference a year makes. Ryan Blaney’s race in Charlotte ended for the night.
In an interview with Fox Sports after his DNF, Blaney revealed that he blew a tire while accelerating and collided with the wall. He remains uncertain about how the tire blew and expressed his disappointment that the race ended this way for his team.
I’m not sure, I’ll have to investigate. Just made our pit stop and as I was gaining speed, I hit turn three and it felt like a tire blew out. Not sure if I ran over something or what happened, but we’ll have to review the footage. It’s a shame our night ended so early, especially considering we didn’t even reach the halfway point of the race and I thought we were making progress.
Blaney also stated that the car was improving gradually as the race went on, making the crash even more frustrating. He expressed his frustration and disappointment with his team as they were unable to secure a solid result in the race.
Ryan Blaney’s night comes to an end due to a blown tire. He speaks with JoshRSims outside the medical center at Charlotte.
The last two weeks of racing have been incredibly disappointing for the defending champion and his team. With the season already halfway through and no playoff spot guaranteed yet, Blaney will be eager to regain his winning form soon.
