Le Mans: The highly anticipated 24 Hours of Le Mans event in 2024 is scheduled to take place on June 12. The renowned racing team JOTA has successfully completed the test of their Porsche 963 #12 JOTA. This achievement comes after a major effort to rebuild the car following Callum Ilott’s accident during Wednesday night’s practice session. The accident resulted in a cracked structure, requiring a complete rebuild of the car from scratch using a bare carbon chassis.
To test the car’s performance and ensure its readiness for the upcoming race, the team conducted a brief test at the aerodrome adjacent to the Le Mans circuit, known as Circuit de la Sarthe. Despite the recent rain making conditions dangerous for Ilott, the test was a success. The No.12 JOTA Porsche has now completed its test, marking a significant milestone in the team’s journey towards #LeMans24.
“It’s fantastic to be back behind the wheel,” expressed the 25-year-old driver, Ilott. “Although the track was wet, we took a cautious approach and gradually increased the speed. The test allowed us to check the car’s systems and ensure that everything is in perfect condition. I am incredibly grateful and proud of the team for their extraordinary efforts to get us to this point.”
Ilott further added, “The car feels great, looks great, and I believe we are fully prepared for the race. During warm-up, Will Stevens will take the wheel to confirm that everything is right on the track. I want to express my deep gratitude to the team for their tireless determination and remarkable teamwork. It is truly humbling and fills me with immense pride to be part of this exceptional family.”
Despite the challenges faced during the reconstruction process, the Porsche #12 JOTA will start the race from the eighth position on the grid. This is a testimony to the team’s resilience and determination. Alongside Ilott, will be Will Stevens, who achieved victory alongside Ilott in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the 6 Hours of Spa, and Norman Nato.
