Former President Donald Trump makes second appearance at NASCAR race on Sunday. Trump, who is currently running as a candidate for the Republican Party, attended the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This was the first time in NASCAR history that a former president or sitting president attended the longest race on the calendar.
During the event, Trump was seen alongside Richard Childress, the owner of the Richard Childress Racing Hall of Fame. He received a warm welcome from fans and even took photos with Childress’ grandson and the driver of the Chevy No. 3 before the race. Trump watched the race from various locations, including the pit box, VIP stands, and the track roof.
Trump’s presence at the race was part of his electoral campaign against the current president. This was not his first appearance at a motor racing championship in the 2024 season, as he was also a special guest at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami with the McLaren Racing team.
Prior to the race, there were concerns among NASCAR fans that Trump’s presence could cause issues for driver Kyle Larson, who was attempting to participate in the Double. However, there were no airspace restrictions that would delay Larson’s travel from Charlotte Airport to the track, allowing him to fly back and take over the No. 5 car mid-race.
Unfortunately, the race was interrupted by a rain delay, adding to Larson’s disappointment after finishing 18th in the Indy 500.
