Max Verstappen has shown great mastery under the current Formula 1 regulations. The current F1 world champion is widely discussed and is a topic of discussion among various sports analysts. Although most discussions come from the F1 community, former NFL star and now sports analyst, Pat McAfee, also recently shared his thoughts on the Dutch driver.
Verstappen had a highly dominant performance last year and has maintained his good form this season. Although the sport is currently on pause, with the Australian Grand Prix still a few days away, McAfee caught online attention for intentionally mispronouncing Verstappen’s name.
During a conversation on his popular show, McAfee was joined by NASCAR star Kyle Busch and an ESPN analyst. It was during this discussion that McAfee, jokingly, referred to the 26-year-old driver differently.
Furthermore, McAfee took the opportunity to discuss Verstappen’s dominance in Formula 1. Verstappen had a dominant performance in 2023 and, based on the first two races of this season, it seems he is on track to continue his success.
While Verstappen is the center of attention, Red Bull team advisor Helmut Marko revealed that Verstappen’s success is also benefiting his teammate, Sergio Perez. Perez achieved two second places in the first two races.
Marko made it clear that Perez is benefiting greatly from using the same race setup as Verstappen this year. However, the 34-year-old Mexican driver still does not have the same race pace and speed in a flying lap as his teammate.
In the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Perez finished 13 seconds behind Verstappen. Taking all this into consideration, it will be interesting to see how Perez will fare against Verstappen in the next Australian Grand Prix.
