He ultimately secured the 27th position.
The week before, Truex Jr.’s teammate, Bell, faced a similar fate when his car experienced mechanical issues towards the end of the race at Gateway, despite a strong performance up to that point. Truex Jr. was there to assist Bell, pushing him towards the finish line in a remarkable display of teamwork. Unfortunately, this time, he had no one to return the favor.
The highly respected veteran driver seemed visibly disappointed at not being able to conserve enough fuel to complete the race. Truex Jr. acknowledged that the result was disheartening, especially considering he was on track to finish in second place, behind the race winner.
