Dale Jr. has always been a fervent supporter of local circuit racing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (at the Circuit) and Richmond Track (Via IMAGO) Richmond hosted the Toyota Owners 400 race last Sunday and, despite some incidents and late drama, the race failed to deliver in terms of overall entertainment. Being held on Easter Sunday, there was less viewership compared to last year’s Bristol dirt race, which took place on the same weekend. The NASCAR Hall of Fame, through its podcast, discussed the future of the track as the underwhelming races continue. He highlighted that the track is at risk of losing its second race date. The Teardown podcast has already reported that Richmond’s second race could be replaced as soon as 2025. Junior is frustrated with the possibility of losing another local circuit race to a mixed track weekend. He emphasized that the stubbornness of the track authorities is to blame for this situation. The two-time Xfinity Series champion has repeatedly called for the track to repave the asphalt, as they used to do in the past, but this suggestion has always been rejected. Richmond is dangerously close to losing its second race date… and it may be too late. 😬 pic.twitter.com/6ybpn0R4li JR Motorsports co-owner also visibly disappointed that the race is held on Easter Sunday. He noted that this is detrimental to the sport, as most families do not dedicate time to NASCAR during these holiday weekends. This would result in a drop in ticket sales and TV viewership. The words of the NASCAR legend demonstrate his deep love for local circuit racing. Junior, like the fans, wants the sport to remain true to its roots and continue racing on local circuits instead of abandoning them. If there is a need for drastic changes in the current NASCAR system, the governing body should take that risk, as staying true to the sport’s roots is always the path to success. Discover:
