VIDEO – Alpine’s Franco Colapinto survives heart-stopping crash, triggering red flags at F1 Imola GP

A horrifying crash at the Imola Grand Prix has once again halted the Formula 1 qualifying session, as Franco Colapinto from Alpine caused chaos on the track. Making his debut for the 2025 season, Colapinto’s reckless maneuver sent him careening into the gravel trap after veering off onto the grass at Tamburello.

The Argentinian driver’s violent collision with the barriers left spectators gasping for air, but miraculously, he emerged unscathed and signaled to his team that he was okay. This incident marked the second major crash of the day during Q1, with Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda also experiencing a terrifying accident at the Villeneuve chicane.

As the dust settled, it was clear that Colapinto’s qualifying journey would be marred by penalties due to an infraction during the red flag period. Despite initially qualifying for Q2, his premature entry into the pitlane before the restart announcement mirrored a similar misstep that cost the Mercedes duo valuable grid positions earlier in the season.

Colapinto, a 21-year-old rising star, has stepped in to replace Jack Doohan at Alpine, adding a new dynamic to the team after his prior stint with Williams in 2024. The start of Q2 had to be postponed for repairs to the damaged tyre barriers, further adding to the drama and suspense at the Imola Grand Prix.
