NASCAR has had some interesting encounters with wild animals over the years. During the NASCAR Xfinity Series race in Portland, there were some notable moments. The rookie driver from Kaulig Racing secured his first win in the series with an impressive performance, including a strong comeback on the last lap.
However, the most exciting part of the day was when a wild coyote entered the track. Captured on camera, the coyote unexpectedly appeared on the infield grass and ran across the live circuit. It eventually disappeared into an area below the stands where fans were seated.
The Fox race commentators in the booth had fun making puns about the coyote’s wild race and were thrilled to witness its journey across the track.
This is not the first time NASCAR fans have encountered wild animals during races. Some of the most memorable and amusing animal encounters in the sport’s history include a groundhog in Michigan in 2016, a seagull in Daytona in 1991, and a rabbit in Bristol in 2015.
SVG entered the Xfinity series with the goal of competing for the championship and gaining valuable oval track experience before moving up to the Cup series. With his win in Portland, a road course where he is expected to excel, he can now approach oval races with more confidence.
After the race, SVG expressed his excitement and relief, knowing he had secured his first NASCAR win since the Chicago street race in 2023. He described the experience as really cool and expressed his love for the cars that led him to victory.
Looking ahead, SVG and his team hope to capitalize on the momentum of his win and secure a spot in the playoffs in upcoming events. He will be a formidable competitor in the upcoming Cup and Xfinity road course races this season.
