Marcelo Tiglia Gastaldi achieved his first stage victory in the Dakar 2024 on Wednesday, imposing himself in the tenth stage. This included two Portuguese among the top ten.
In a day dominated by South Americans, Brazilian Gastaldi (Team BBR/Taurus) surpassed Argentine Nicolas Cavigliasso (Taurus Factory Team) by 1m26s, denying him a second consecutive win. David Zille, also Argentine, finished third representing South Racing Can-Am.
Mitchel Guthrie (Taurus Factory Team), the classification leader, finished sixth, but the losses to the main opponents were minimal. Ricardo Porém (MMP/BRP) signed the sixth best time, 13m46s behind the leader, followed by the Portuguese duo João Monteiro/Nuno Morais (South Racing Can-Am) in ninth place, 19m37s behind.
Guthrie remains solid at the top of the overall standings, now 28m03s ahead of Cristina Gutiérrez (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team USA by BFG/Taurus). Francisco López Contardo (Can-Am Factory Team) remains in third position, ahead of teammates Rokas Baciuska and Austin Jones – all already more than an hour behind the leader. Porém stays in seventh and Monteiro/Morais are in 13th.
