Ferrari has been one of the few teams to beat Red Bull in Formula 1 this season, doing so twice – Carlos Sainz won the Australian GP and Charles Leclerc prevailed at home in Monaco.
However, Marc Gené sees Scuderia out of the fight for victories at this stage of the year. The ambassador of the Maranello constructor said to DAZN after the first day of the Austrian GP:
– These are moments at this point to get as much as we can, because fighting for victories like in Monaco is something that is not within the reach of our car at the moment’.
After Leclerc’s victory in Monaco about a month ago, Ferrari missed the podiums in the Canadian GP (abandoned with both drivers) and in Spain, where their best driver was the Monegasque in fifth.
McLaren is now the main rival of Red Bull, with Lando Norris taking pole position in Spain and giving a tough fight to Max Verstappen (Red Bull) both in Barcelona and in Canada – finishing second on both occasions. The British driver, currently second in the championship behind the Dutchman, has also won in Miami.
