The last car driven by McLaren Senna was the MP4/8, before he switched to Williams. In the 1993 Formula 1 season, he finished second in the Drivers’ Championship, just behind Alain Prost, after winning five races.
Tragically, Senna’s time with Williams was cut short in 1994, when he lost his life during the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola. He suffered a fatal accident on the seventh lap of the race.
In honor of Senna, Sebastian Vettel will be present at this year’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. As a tribute, he will be driving Senna’s MP4/8.
Vettel made the announcement on social media, stating: “See you in Imola on Sunday, May 19th, #FOREVERSENNA.” In a video he posted, Vettel expressed his admiration for Senna not only as a skilled driver, but also as a compassionate man.
After retiring from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season with Aston Martin, Vettel’s name has been linked to a possible return to the sport with Mercedes, replacing Lewis Hamilton, who is moving to Ferrari. However, there have been no further developments since then.
