McLaren CEO’s Blunt Advice to Red Bull Sparks Controversy in F1 World

In a fiery exchange of words following the intense clash between Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen at the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, McLaren’s Zak Brown didn’t hold back, urging Red Bull to abide by the rules and take accountability for their actions.

Verstappen, starting from pole position, managed to hold onto the lead after going off-track to defend against Piastri’s challenge on the inside. The decision not to give back the position resulted in a five-second penalty for the Dutch driver, potentially costing him the race victory.

Brown criticized Red Bull’s handling of the situation, suggesting that swapping positions would have been a more prudent move. He stated, “I definitely thought a penalty was deserved… It was Oscar’s corner, and at some point you gotta just concede.”

On the other side of the spectrum, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko vehemently opposed the penalty, labeling it as severe and inconsistent with previous rulings. Marko argued that Verstappen had limited options and had done enough to maintain his position.

Despite Red Bull’s dissatisfaction, the stewards enforced the regulation that penalizes drivers who gain an advantage by going off-track and do not yield the position.

The penalty forced Verstappen to relinquish his lead during a pit stop, allowing Piastri to secure his third win of the season and take the lead in the F1 Drivers’ Championship.

The outcome left Red Bull feeling dejected, with Marko expressing disappointment over missing out on the victory despite the team’s strong performance.

The clash between Verstappen and Piastri continues to reverberate in the F1 community, sparking debates over sportsmanship and adherence to racing regulations. As the championship unfolds, tensions are running high, setting the stage for more thrilling battles on the track.
