Verstappen triunfa com duas vitórias em Imola no domingo.

The three-time Formula 1 world champion stated that his performance was not affected by the time he spent gaming between his real-world responsibilities. Verstappen mentioned that he took part in gaming sessions during the evenings, but not overnight. However, he stayed up to watch the heavyweight world title fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, which was televised around midnight local time.

Team principal Christian Horner informed reporters that Verstappen had an extremely busy weekend, as he also took part in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring while juggling his commitments in the car. When asked if there were any concerns about his star driver’s activities, Horner added: “He won two races today. One in a BMW M3 and another in a Formula 1 car. He is essentially a racing machine.” Horner further explained that it was not uncommon for Verstappen to test different setups at night.

Verstappen has now emerged victorious in five of the seven races this season and is well on his way to securing his fourth Formula 1 world title, despite increased competition. McLaren’s Lando Norris, who closely challenged Verstappen during Sunday’s race and finished just 0.7 seconds behind him, virtually competed with Verstappen in the past during the 24 Hours of Spa, albeit on a weekend off.

When asked about physical fatigue and whether he would consider participating in a virtual endurance race on a grand prix weekend, Norris expressed his willingness to do so. However, he emphasized that his current focus was on having fun in the real world. Norris mentioned that he stayed up to watch the fight the night before and that he generally doesn’t sleep much. He also revealed that he was following the golf tournament and went to bed around 2 a.m.

Norris believed that participating in the virtual race wouldn’t have a big impact on Verstappen, otherwise he wouldn’t have done it. Norris noted that Verstappen didn’t drive late, completed a few laps, and prepared for the gaming session. He acknowledged that while it may not have a big physical impact, it can be mentally exhausting. Norris humorously added that he probably stayed up later than Verstappen.

In the end, Verstappen attributed his difficulties to the bumpy track at Imola, stating: “I’m exhausted with the imperfections, to be honest. My back and everything are hurting. It’s not so much the physical aspect, but the extremely bumpy track out there. After about 20 laps, I really felt the strain on my back.” Verstappen concluded by expressing his expectation to rest in bed, take painkillers, and receive a massage. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin)
