Triple champion and current Formula 1 world champion, Max Verstappen revealed that he was approached by teams from the FIA World Endurance Championship about his participation in the Hypercar category at Le Mans.
Verstappen stated that he was contacted by specific individuals, but emphasized the importance of the timing and manner of the approach.
“I don’t want to make a hasty decision,” he further explained.
He expressed his belief that it will take another year or two for a better understanding of the new cars, as the Balance of Performance aspect makes the endeavor challenging.
Although Verstappen had previously mentioned that he would consider racing at Le Mans after his F1 career, he now seems to be more open to the idea of competing in both simultaneously.
The Dutch driver highlighted the importance of proper preparation and compared it to his work in the simulator, stating that if it can be effectively combined, it may be possible during the F1 season.
Nico Hulkenberg was the last driver to participate in Le Mans while also racing in F1 during the same season. In 2015, he won the overall race in the LMP1 category alongside Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber for Porsche.
Verstappen expressed the need for adjustments in the Balance of Performance and driver weight regulations before considering racing in the iconic endurance event.
He emphasized the impact of weight on a car’s performance and suggested the implementation of a medium or minimum weight requirement. Verstappen also acknowledged that weight difference can result in a significant time difference on the track.
However, for Verstappen to compete in both F1 and Le Mans in the same season, there should be no scheduling conflict. Unfortunately, in 2025, the Canadian Grand Prix coincides with Le Mans.
