Verstappen Holds Off McLarens to Win Uneventful Belgian GP Sprint at Spa

Utilizing his unique composure and advantage of straight-line speed on a Red Bull, reigning world champion Max Verstappen kept Piastri and Norris at bay during a quiet 15-lap Sprint Race at the Belgian Grand Prix that finished on Saturday. The Dutchman took the lead at the beginning of the opening lap and never looked back, as he found a way to negate Piastri’s DRS for the full 15-lap distance.

This was once again a strategic masterclass from the reigning World Champion, which included an excellent timing of his overtake on Piastri at the beginning of the race before he methodically controlled the pace from the front despite weighing heavily on Aussie pressure.

🔁 Sprint Delivers Little Drama
Other than Verstappen’s decisive move, the sprint was relatively uneventful. Charles Leclerc made a brief splash on Lap 1 when he executed a slick move to overtake Lando Norris for third place; however, Norris regained that position with minimal effort soon after, and everything resumed as expected. Further back, the most notable incident occurred before anyone even began the race when Pierre Gasly suffered a water leak and subsequently missed the start and ended up rejoining the race two laps down.

🇧🇷 Bortoleto Just Short of Points
Brazilian rookie Gabriel Bortoleto took full advantage of Gasly’s missed opportunity and drove a stellar race to take ninth place, just missing points in the Sprint Race. Started in the tenth position, Bortoleto ran a clean race and absorbed valuable track time on one of F1’s most challenging circuits.

🏁 Top 8 – Belgian GP Sprint Race Results
Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

Oscar Piastri (McLaren)

Lando Norris (McLaren)

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)

Esteban Ocon (Alpine)

Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)

Oliver Bearman (Haas)

Isack Haydar (Haas)

Both Haas drivers gained points — a rarity and an encouraging result for the American team. Bearman and Haydar ended up finishing in the final two points earning positions, as Haas’ luck seems to be turning.

⏭️ Looking Ahead to Sunday
As Max once again has a clinical display, and the McLarens clear for real threats on high-speed tracks, we anticipate a huge showdown in tomorrow’s Grand Prix, especially if the rain factor, which is all too frequent at Spa, shows up once again!

It will be one overtaking a masterclass and a Sprint win for Max Verstappen, but can McLaren respond in the main event? We look forward to Sunday.
