Verstappen e Norris disputam vitória na Corrida Sprint da Áustria, com os outros em perseguição.

The conclusion of the Sprint Qualifying at the Red Bull Ring was breathtaking. Verstappen’s Red Bull and Norris’ McLaren were separated by less than a tenth of a second, with Piastri’s McLaren trailing by three tenths of a second. This significant difference becomes even more evident considering the lap time of 65 seconds.

George Russell, the Mercedes driver who will start in fourth place for Saturday’s Sprint Race, expressed surprise at the difference after his lap in SQ3 at the Red Bull Ring. He believed that he may have pushed too hard during his out lap, resulting in a loss of tire grip. Despite this setback, Russell still considers fourth place a favorable position for the upcoming battle.

Toto Wolff, the head of the Mercedes team, acknowledged that his team had a tough reality despite making significant improvements with the W15. Verstappen’s exceptional speed and the strong performance of the McLarens in qualifying made it clear that the qualifying order for the race will likely remain the same during the Sprint. This means that Mercedes will be chasing the top two or three positions.

Whether Russell can keep up with the two main contenders remains uncertain. Based on today’s performance, it seems likely that Verstappen will take the lead with Norris close behind, leaving the rest of the pack behind. However, there is still a possibility for the McLaren to overtake the Red Bull if it has a better start.

In tabloid format, Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes teammate, finished in P6 after a disappointing session. He expressed his frustration, stating that he was not competitive throughout the session. Despite feeling good in practice, Hamilton admitted to having bad laps and believes overtaking will be a challenge. However, he remains optimistic and promises to give his best.

Oscar Piastri, an Australian driver, hopes to challenge Mercedes. After a somewhat mediocre performance in Spain, Piastri intends to recover. He acknowledged that his position was decent but identified areas where he could have improved his last lap. Piastri expressed excitement for the upcoming weekend, confident in the performance of his new front wing. He also noted that the difference to Max Verstappen, his main competitor, was not significant, indicating that he is in the race.

Andrea Stella, McLaren team boss, praised the World Champion in the Sprint Qualy summary. He acknowledged the challenges faced during the qualifying session but expressed satisfaction with the team’s result. Stella recognized Verstappen’s strong performance but emphasized McLaren’s presence and their chances of success. He also highlighted McLaren’s consistency in outperforming their Mercedes engine suppliers.

The absence of Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren cockpit has proven advantageous for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Without Hamilton, the two drivers could have achieved multiple victories in F1 by now. Verstappen, on the other hand, thrives in such situations. With the support of his loyal fans and an orange-painted circuit, Verstappen is highly motivated and aims to win the Sprint Race, secure pole position again on Saturday, and ultimately triumph in the Grand Prix on Sunday. Verstappen’s exceptional driving skills put him in a league shared by only a few F1 drivers, making him a formidable competitor in any car.

Christian Horner, Red Bull team boss, praised Verstappen’s performance, acknowledging the three impressive laps he made. However, Horner also acknowledged McLaren’s growing competition and Mercedes’ better performance. He eagerly awaits the events of Saturday, hoping for an exciting race.

Lastly, it is worth noting that Verstappen has held the first place in the F1 World Championship for an impressive 49 consecutive races since May 2022. With a 69-point advantage over Norris after ten stages, Verstappen’s dominance is evident.
