Verstappen aceita a situação como ela é. Nunca é agradável quando isso acontece.

Here is an introduction to this report. The FIA Formula 1 commissioners of the Austrian Grand Prix provided their assessment of the incident involving Verstappen and Norris. According to their statement, Car 1 (Verstappen) was approaching turn 3 with Car 4 (Norris) on his left side. Before turning, the driver of Car 1 moved to the left, resulting in a collision with Car 4. The commissioners concluded that the driver of Car 1 was primarily responsible and imposed the mentioned penalty based on previous cases.

In the current era of Formula 1, Verstappen and Norris stand out as the top performers. They were engaged in a fierce battle for victory after the setback of Red Bull during their World Champion’s last pit stop. This mistake caused Verstappen to lose his eight-second advantage to Norris, who now appeared large in his rearview mirrors.

Norris had the advantage of using new medium tires on his McLaren, while Verstappen had to deal with a worn set on his Red Bull. It quickly became evident that the driver of car number 1 was no match for his competitor in terms of performance.

In response, Verstappen resorted to cunning maneuvers, employing the “dark arts” that only the most skilled drivers possess when necessary. He could have settled for second place behind his deserving friend Lando, but Verstappen’s competitive nature dictated otherwise.

Verstappen’s ruthless and unsportsmanlike move effectively ended Norris’ chances of victory. Despite its severity, the commissioners issued a mere 10-second penalty, which seemed inadequate given the gravity of the situation. A black flag, symbolizing disqualification, would have been a more fitting consequence.

The last thing that Formula 1 needed on that Sunday was an influx of Orange Army fans at the Red Bull Ring, supporting their driver who had received a black flag. However, such a penalty would have been fairer than the light reprimand that Verstappen received. He accumulated penalty points on his license for his questionable actions.

Verstappen, who finished fifth in the race, defended his actions by stating that it is difficult for spectators to accurately judge his braking techniques. He acknowledged that there have been complaints in the past about his moves during braking, but claimed that he always adjusts his steering wheel before applying the brakes, ensuring a straight line trajectory.

In the end, Verstappen believes that the driver inside the car knows his intentions and actions best.

Regarding the penalty imposed by the FIA F1 stewards: “This is simply absurd. He can’t just change direction abruptly – what do you expect me to do? His reckless maneuvers, his braking is incredibly late, and I believe it’s the nature of the corner that sometimes leads to these issues.”

Verstappen admitted: “I need to review why and how we made contact. Of course, we’ll discuss it, but it’s just part of racing. I’ve had numerous battles throughout my career. The incident is one of the things we got wrong in terms of strategy and pit stop. The car felt strange, the first part wasn’t terrible, but it got progressively worse. We need to investigate the car.”

It was a disappointing result for what could have been one of the most thrilling races of the Grand Prix in a long time. However, Verstappen showed that his fierce determination knows no bounds. We assumed that he directed his aggression and hostility only towards Lewis Hamilton. No! That’s how Max races, whether against a friend or a rival.

Although Verstappen is undoubtedly the most talented, respected, and accomplished F1 driver of all time, it is on days like these that he does not favor himself. It can be argued that he owes an apology to his friend Lando, because the British driver has always shown the utmost respect to Max.

After the 11th round of the 2024 F1 World Championship, Verstappen’s lead in the driver’s standings has now increased to 81 points ahead of Norris.
