VeeKay shows significant improvement since the first practice session to claim the top spot in the second practice session. The NTT IndyCar Series hit the track at Barber on Saturday morning for its second practice session of the weekend. The weather was pleasant, with some clouds and a gentle breeze. Rinus VeeKay took advantage of the ideal conditions and secured the top spot with his Ed Carpenter Racing Chevy after the 45-minute session. He completed the lap in 1:06.5463 and showed consistent performance. His team found the right setup and is fully prepared for the upcoming qualifying session later in the day. Romain Grosjean was the second fastest driver, just 0.0356 seconds behind VeeKay. Scott McLaughlin took third place, making it two consecutive practice sessions where Chevy cars dominated the top three positions. RLL secured the next two positions, with Graham Rahal and Christian Lundgaard finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Some drivers faced challenges while simulating their qualifying runs and ended up going off track. Kyffin Simpson had the most dramatic incident, jumping through the grass at Turn 1 exit. Despite the violent jump, his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda remained intact and he continued without issues. Pietro Fittipaldi encountered a steering failure during his first high-speed lap through Turn 1, causing his front wheels to disconnect from their steering inputs. As a result, he slid into the gravel, narrowly avoiding the wall. Fittipaldi and his team will need to investigate the cause of this critical failure. Felix Rosenqvist also faced challenges as his MSR team detected an engine issue and instructed him to park the car. He completed only seven laps and will likely need to change the engine before qualifying later this afternoon. Teams have little time to rest as the knockout qualifying is scheduled to take place in just over two hours, at 2:30 pm central time.
