Vandoorne and Hughes join new Maserati Formula E squad

Maserati MSG Racing is set to make changes to its lineup for the upcoming Formula E season. Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes will be joining the team, replacing Maximilian Guenther and Jehan Daruvala. The new drivers will make their debuts during pre-season testing in Valencia in November before the start of the 2024-25 campaign in Sao Paulo. Vandoorne’s move to Maserati means he will continue to be associated with the Stellantis brand, while Hughes joins the team after leaving NEOM McLaren. Both drivers expressed their excitement about joining Maserati and their hopes for success in the upcoming season.

The departure of Hughes from NEOM McLaren marks the end of a significant chapter in his career. He expressed gratitude to the team for their support and guidance over the past four and a half years. McLaren team principal Ian James praised Hughes for his contributions to the team and his growth as a driver in Formula E. Meanwhile, McLaren is expected to promote Taylor Barnard to race alongside Sam Bird, while Guenther is likely to fill Vandoorne’s spot at DS Penske. Daruvala’s future in Formula E remains uncertain.

Maserati expressed its appreciation for Guenther and Daruvala’s dedication to the team over the past two years. Guenther’s victories in Jakarta and Tokyo, as well as podium finishes in Rome and Misano, have left a lasting impact on Maserati’s history in motorsport. The team is proud of these achievements and wishes the departing drivers all the best in their future endeavors.
