Valtteri Bottas Drops a Bombshell: Almost Signed with Williams Before Joining Cadillac!

In a shocking revelation that could change the landscape of Formula 1, Valtteri Bottas has come forward with the startling news that he was on the verge of rejoining his former team, Williams, before ultimately choosing to race with Cadillac next season. This unexpected twist has sent ripples through the F1 community as fans and analysts alike ponder the implications of such a move.

The 36-year-old Finnish driver, who has been a constant presence in Formula 1 since his debut with Williams in 2013, currently serves as a test and reserve driver for Mercedes. Bottas has been actively involved in mentoring the young talent Kimi Antonelli, who is set to make his full-time debut with the team in 2025. However, the recent upheaval at Sauber, which saw the team opt for an entirely new driver lineup, left both Bottas and his teammate Zhou Guanyu out in the cold for the 2025 season.

As Bottas reflected on his journey, he expressed a sense of nostalgia and regret during a recent interview in Austin, Texas, the venue for the US Grand Prix. He disclosed, “I like working with him [James Vowles] and I was actually, yeah, pretty close to signing with them for this year. Yeah, last year we had the contract already, so it was pretty close.”

But what ultimately derailed his potential return to Williams? Bottas revealed the curveball thrown his way was none other than Carlos Sainz, who has also been maneuvering for a new team after Ferrari made the controversial decision to replace him with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton. “Carlos Sainz happened,” Bottas quipped, underscoring the ruthless nature of F1’s driver market.

Despite Bottas’s strong ties with Williams and a familiar rapport with team principal James Vowles, it appears Sainz had always been Vowles’ first choice. Sainz, who had been eyed by Vowles since 2023, ultimately secured the coveted seat, leaving Bottas to pivot to Cadillac for the upcoming season. In a stunning twist of fate, Bottas will reunite with Hamilton on the track, as both drivers will compete against each other in the 2026 season.

This unprecedented turn of events has left F1 enthusiasts buzzing. Bottas’s near-signing with Williams not only highlights the cutthroat competition in the sport but also raises questions about team strategies and driver selections moving forward. As the F1 world gears up for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Bottas as he embarks on his new adventure with Cadillac, while the implications of his almost-return to Williams linger in the air.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to follow the thrilling saga of Valtteri Bottas and the ever-evolving world of Formula 1!
