Valtteri Bottas: Financial Disputes Not a Factor in Sauber Contract Talks

Valtteri Bottas has firmly dismissed speculation that financial disagreements are holding up his potential contract extension with Sauber, as the Finnish driver continues negotiations about his future in Formula 1. Despite ongoing uncertainty regarding his seat for 2025, Bottas insists money is not an issue in his discussions with the team.

With Sauber set to evolve into Audi’s works team from 2026, Bottas has made no secret of his desire to remain with the squad through the transitional period. However, as the United States Grand Prix approaches, the decision on who will partner Nico Hulkenberg next season has yet to be made.

Speaking ahead of the Austin race, Bottas expressed disappointment that an announcement had not yet been made but revealed that both parties have agreed on contractual terms should Sauber decide to keep him on board.

“I was hoping everything would be sorted before Austin, but we’re still waiting on final decisions,” Bottas explained. “I know the terms that I’m up for, and I’m just waiting for the green light.”

His comments put an end to speculation that salary demands were delaying a deal. When asked if money was a potential issue, Bottas replied, “It shouldn’t be. I think the terms we’re talking about are OK. And Audi should have the budget, at least that’s what we’ve heard.”

Bottas, a ten-time Grand Prix winner, is vying to keep his spot as Sauber evaluates whether to prioritize experience or take a gamble on younger talent. With one seat left on the 2025 grid, Bottas acknowledged the risk of losing his place in F1 but remains confident in his abilities.

“I love Formula 1 and want to stay here. I feel I would be best for the team’s interests,” Bottas said. “All I can do now is focus on performing on track and continue working hard with the team.”

The final decision lies with Sauber team principal Mattia Binotto, who is weighing whether to continue with Bottas’ experience or opt for a younger driver as the team prepares for its Audi rebrand. As Bottas faces a pivotal moment in his career, the future of the Finn in F1 remains uncertain, with both sides aiming for a resolution soon.
