After years of speculation, Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari in 2025 marks one of the most anticipated team switches in Formula 1 history. While doubts remain about whether the seven-time world champion can thrive at Maranello, former Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas believes this change could be exactly what Hamilton needs to rediscover his peak form.
“It’s something new and refreshing for him, which can be a good trigger sometimes,” Bottas told Sky Sports.
Will Ferrari Reignite Hamilton’s Championship Form?
Hamilton’s final season at Mercedes was a mixed bag. Despite securing his first win in over two years at Silverstone, he struggled with the unpredictable W15 and was largely outperformed by George Russell.
However, Ferrari ended 2024 as one of the most competitive teams, outscoring rivals in the final eight races. If the Maranello-based squad provides Hamilton with a strong car, the record-breaking eighth title is back on the table.
But Bottas isn’t just excited about Hamilton’s form—he’s also intrigued by how he will coexist with Charles Leclerc.
“Keen to see how they get on with Charles,” Bottas added.
With Ferrari’s future built around Leclerc, will team politics become a factor? Or can Hamilton and Leclerc push each other to new heights?
A Wide-Open 2025 Championship Fight? Bottas Predicts Tight Margins
One of the biggest talking points heading into 2025 is the increasingly competitive F1 grid. Red Bull’s once-dominant stranglehold weakened in the latter half of 2024, with Ferrari, McLaren, and even Mercedes winning races.
“The gaps are quite small at the top, even between four, five teams, it’s going to be really hard to predict, which is good,” Bottas said.
“If somebody makes a step, that’s a game changer.”
With so many teams capable of fighting for wins, Bottas believes the early-season performance gains will define the championship battle.
“The first few races will give a direction, but like we saw last year with the small margins, if somebody makes a step, that’s a game changer.”
Mercedes, where Bottas has returned as a reserve driver, is still hoping to be in the title conversation after years of playing catch-up.
“Of course, I hope that Mercedes can be in the fight for the championship, which is everyone’s target over here,” Bottas said.
The Verdict: Can Hamilton Prove the Doubters Wrong?
At 40 years old, Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has drawn both excitement and skepticism. While some question whether he can still deliver elite performances, Bottas insists that a fresh challenge might be exactly what he needs to thrive again.
With Ferrari poised to challenge for the championship, the stage is set for one of the most thrilling seasons in years. Can Hamilton silence the critics and make history with an eighth title?
One thing is certain—2025 will be a season F1 fans won’t want to miss.
