Valtteri Bottas in Talks for Sensational Mid-Season F1 Comeback with Alpine

In a shocking turn of events, Valtteri Bottas is rumored to be gearing up for a dramatic return to the Formula 1 circuit mid-season with Alpine. The team is reportedly contemplating replacing Franco Colapinto, and Alpine’s consultant, Flavio Briatore, has allegedly reached out to Mercedes to discuss the potential availability of Bottas.

Alpine currently finds itself at the bottom of the 2025 constructors’ standings, with neither Colapinto nor his predecessor Jack Doohan managing to score any points. Colapinto, who signed a five-race contract, is set to compete at Silverstone; however, his performance is said to be under scrutiny on a race-by-race basis.

Bottas, currently serving as Mercedes’ reserve driver, has expressed his eagerness to make a comeback to F1. The Finnish driver is also a top contender for the coveted seat at Cadillac in 2026, possibly as the lead driver, while Sergio Perez and Felipe Drugovich are linked to the second spot.

Alpine’s lackluster performance has been attributed in part to an underperforming power unit, as they await the arrival of Mercedes engines in 2026. Despite this transitional year, Briatore believes that the drivers should be delivering better results on the track.

Colapinto faced criticism following his performance in Austria, where he finished at the back of the pack and received a penalty for forcing Oscar Piastri off the track. With his lackluster showings, Colapinto has yet to prove his worth and seize the opportunity presented to him. Considering 2025 as a year of experimentation, Briatore is open to the idea of replacing Colapinto with Bottas or another driver to shake things up in the team.
