Valentino Rossi makes dramatic return to GT World Challenge with new BMW contract for 2026

Valentino Rossi Makes a Thunderous Return to GT World Challenge as BMW Re-Signs Racing Legend!

In a stunning announcement that has sent shockwaves through the motorsport community, Valentino Rossi, the iconic figure of racing, confirmed his commitment to the GT World Challenge Europe for the exhilarating 2026 season. This news, revealed during the much-anticipated VR46 team launch in Rome, marks a monumental chapter in Rossi’s illustrious career as he returns as a factory BMW rider.

The 46-year-old racing maestro, who has dazzled fans for decades, expressed his excitement about rejoining the GT World Challenge, a championship he holds dear to his heart. “I will be racing in the GTWC and I am very happy because it is a championship that I really like and in which I took part at the beginning of my career in cars,” Rossi declared to Sky Sports, emphatically asserting his preference for this series over the World Endurance Championship.

Why the shift? Rossi explained, “I’ve raced in the world championship for the last two years, but I decided to change because the GTWC is in Europe and the races are closer.” The logistical nightmare of international travel, especially being away from his family and two young daughters, played a significant role in his decision-making process. “It was a choice I had to make, but I’m really happy because the GTWC is great fun,” he added, showcasing his passion for the sport.

Despite swirling rumors earlier this month suggesting Rossi’s absence from the WRT’s LMGT3 line-up meant he was dropped by BMW, he swiftly dispelled these notions. Rossi has always preferred competing in events exclusively featuring GT3 cars, and his family commitments were paramount in his decision to step back from the WEC.

In a powerful statement, he confirmed, “The choice was mine, in agreement with BMW, with whom I signed a three-year renewal.” This contract extension silences any doubts about his future with the Bavarian manufacturer, as he gears up for another thrilling season behind the wheel of the BMW M4 GT3 EVO.

Valentino’s return to the GT World Challenge not only allows him to focus his energy on one series but also paves the way for a more family-friendly racing schedule. WRT has yet to finalize its line-ups for the 2026 season, leaving fans on the edge of their seats to discover who will join the legendary Rossi in both the Sprint and Endurance Cups.

In a brief recap of his previous performances, the Italian racing legend has already celebrated three Sprint race victories, with his best result in the Endurance Cup being a commendable fourth-place finish at Paul Ricard. The anticipation for Rossi’s next chapter in GT racing is palpable, as fans worldwide eagerly await his return to the track.

As the motorsport world holds its breath, one thing is clear: Valentino Rossi’s legacy continues to evolve, and his thrilling journey in the GT World Challenge is just beginning! Buckle up, racing fans—this is a ride you won’t want to miss!
