Valentino Rossi will participate in the upcoming rookies test of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Bahrain on Sunday. The rider will be on board an LMP2 from Team WRT – which he has been a part of since last year, but in GT.
Il Dottore retired from MotoGP at the end of 2021 and has since focused on car racing, now being associated with BMW. He is expected to soon test the German manufacturer’s LMDh, which will debut in WEC next year. As for Rossi, he intends to compete in the championship in 2024, but not in a prototype – starting in GT3, a car category in which he has been competing since last year in the GT World Challenge Europe.
In a statement, Rossi said: ‘I am very happy to try the LMP2 for the first time! It is a great opportunity for Team WRT, as we have plans for me to test the BMW Hypercar in the future. So, before testing it, I think it is a good experience to try the LMP2, since it is similar in terms of aerodynamic load, and I am curious to understand my potential. I am also looking forward to being in Bahrain to watch the last race of the season, and as I hope to compete in WEC in the future, it will be good to understand the environment and the structure of the event.’
