Leapmotor, a subsidiary of Stellantis, has presented the renewed C16, aimed at the Chinese market, and which arrives with five-seat options and a lower price to compete in an increasingly competitive market.
The renewed C16 comes with eight variants, including four extended-range electric variants and four 100% electric versions.
The update follows the design line of the previous C16 in terms of exterior design, featuring a LED strip at the front, retractable door handles, and a considerable air intake at the front. The renewed C16 measures 4.91 meters in length, 1.90 m in width, 1.77 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.82 meters.
The most significant changes compared to its predecessor are visible in the interior of the renewed Leapmotor C16. The updated model is available in two seating configurations of six and five seats. The second variant offers ventilation, heating, and massage for four seats. Another advantage of the five-seat version is the trunk with a maximum capacity of 1,663 liters (with the second-row seats folded down).
In terms of technology, the renewed C16 is equipped with a Snapdragon 8295 system and features a LiDAR system powered by the Qualcomm 8650 processor with a maximum processing power of 100 TOPS. In addition to the LiDAR, the C16 also has five millimeter-wave radars, twelve cameras, and 12 parking sensors.
The fully electric Leapmotor C16 uses an 800 V high-voltage system. The LFP battery of the entry-level model has been upgraded from 67.7 kWh to 74.9 kWh, announcing a range of up to 580 km, which is 60 km more than its predecessor. The top-of-the-line fully electric variant uses an 81.9 kWh LFP battery for 630 km under CLTC conditions.
The 100% electric versions are equipped with a single electric motor installed on the rear axle with a maximum power of 295 hp.
The extended range versions are equipped with a 1.5-liter combustion engine with 94 hp and an electric motor with a maximum power of 228 hp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm, which is powered by a battery with two capacity levels of 28.4 kWh or 38.7 kWh, allowing for an electric-only range of 200 to 280 km (CLTC).
Leapmotor announced that the renewed C16 is available on the Chinese market for prices ranging from US$ 21,130 to US$ 25,300, or €18,358 to €21,980.
