In a scorching hot opening practice at the 2025 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, McLaren’s Lando Norris dominated the session by setting an impressive time of 1:33.204s. The young driver outperformed the likes of Pierre Gasly from Alpine and Lewis Hamilton from Ferrari, creating a peculiar top three lineup at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The intense heat of the track led to some unexpected results, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli facing early setbacks as his Mercedes W16 had to be dismantled due to a significant issue, rumored to be a loss of water pressure. The challenging conditions in Bahrain, contrasting the cooler night-time settings during qualifying and the race, prompted the participation of six rookies in the opening practice session.

Among the newcomers, Luke Browning of Williams showcased his talent by securing the 13th fastest time. The scorching temperatures played a crucial role in the session, with Norris leading the pack with a time that was 0.238s quicker than Gasly and over half a second faster than Hamilton.

Further down the leaderboard, surprises continued with Williams’ Alex Albon in fourth place and Haas’ Esteban Ocon in fifth. Notable mentions in the top 10 included Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Alpine’s Jack Doohan, adding to the unexpected order of results.

As the session progressed, Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson, Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda, and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri occupied the mid-section of the timesheet. Meanwhile, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto led the latter half of the field, followed by Lawson’s teammate Hadjar and promising rookie Browning.

Ferrari’s Dino Beganovic, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, and Haas reserve driver Felipe Drugovich navigated their way through the rankings, setting the stage for a competitive race weekend. The return of Ryo Hirakawa to Haas saw him secure the 17th spot, with Danish driver Frederik Vesti from Mercedes closely behind.

Aymu Iwasa filled in for Max Verstappen at Red Bull, claiming the 19th position, while Antonelli’s troubles relegated him to the bottom of the timesheet. The intense competition and surprises in the opening practice session have set the tone for an exhilarating Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.

Stay tuned for more updates and insights as the F1 action unfolds at the Bahrain International Circuit.
