Damon Hill Urges Lando Norris to Ramp Up Aggression Against Verstappen

The fierce battles on the track against Max Verstappen require nothing less than pure efficiency, according to 1996 world champion Damon Hill. Following the McLaren duo’s showdown with Verstappen at the recent Miami Grand Prix, where both drivers from the Woking-based team fiercely competed for the top positions, Hill emphasized the need for Lando Norris to be ruthless in his approach.

Despite Norris’s numerous attempts to overtake Verstappen during several laps, his efforts inadvertently played into the hands of his teammate and current championship leader, Oscar Piastri. Piastri capitalized on the duel, extending his lead over the chasing pack and expertly managing his advantage until the checkered flag.

The battle between Norris and Verstappen began right from the start, with Norris having to fight his way up from sixth place after a close encounter with the Dutch driver. In light of the ongoing rivalry between the two, British McLaren driver Norris received direct advice from compatriot Damon Hill, who offered insights on the ideal attitude and driving style to adopt when facing Verstappen.

In the F1 Chequered Flag podcast, Hill was unequivocal in his guidance to Norris, emphasizing the necessity for a more aggressive and effective approach to outmaneuver Verstappen. Hill recalled a clash in Austria last year, highlighting how vulnerability can lead to unfavorable outcomes. He stressed the importance of not aiming to be merely a ‘nice guy’ on the track but rather focusing on being effective and strategic, especially when dealing with formidable opponents like Verstappen.

Hill’s advice to Norris underscored the need for a more ruthless and calculated mindset, particularly when racing against drivers like Verstappen who do not give an inch. With the emergence of Piastri as another contender challenging Verstappen, Hill pointed out Piastri’s impressive racing skills that could prove to be a formidable force against the Dutch driver.

As the competition heats up on the Formula 1 circuit, the pressure is on Norris to embrace a more cutthroat approach in his battles with Verstappen and other top contenders. With Hill’s words of wisdom echoing in his ears, Norris faces a pivotal moment in his career where aggression and efficiency could make all the difference in securing victory on the track.
