Noah Gragson’s Crew Chief Advocates for More Horsepower in Cup Cars to Showcase Driver’s Skills

In a bold move to highlight the true potential of NASCAR Cup Series drivers, Noah Gragson’s crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer, is pushing for a significant boost in horsepower for Cup cars on short tracks. Blickensderfer, a seasoned professional with a rich history in the racing world, believes that increasing horsepower will unveil the full skill set of drivers like never before.

Having started his career as a mechanic for Dale Earnhardt Inc., Blickensderfer’s journey in the racing industry has been nothing short of remarkable. From working with NASCAR legends like Carl Edwards to his current role as Noah Gragson’s crew chief at Front Row Motorsports, Blickensderfer’s expertise and passion for the sport are undeniable.

In a recent interview on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Blickensderfer emphasized the importance of enhancing horsepower in Cup cars, stating that the current setup with big tires and limited power masks the drivers’ true abilities. Drawing parallels to NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick’s sentiments, Blickensderfer highlighted the need to unleash the full potential of drivers on the track.

“I’m a big fan of more horsepower, especially when I know I’m in a Ford and I’ve got Doug Yates behind me. I know he’s gonna give us everything, so it’s never gonna hurt me, the more horsepower part,” Blickensderfer expressed passionately.

Under Blickensderfer’s guidance, Noah Gragson made significant strides in the 2024 season, finishing 24th overall with notable achievements including one top-five and seven top-ten finishes in 36 starts. The dynamic duo’s partnership has been a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack, showcasing a blend of talent and strategy that keeps fans on the edge of their seats.

Looking ahead to the current season, Gragson finds himself in 28th place in the Cup Series points table, with three top-ten finishes and one top-five finish in 13 starts. With the unwavering support of Blickensderfer and the entire Front Row Motorsports team, Gragson remains optimistic about the future and the exciting prospects that lie ahead.

As the debate rages on about the optimal horsepower for Cup cars, Blickensderfer’s advocacy for a horsepower boost adds a new dimension to the ongoing discussion. With his wealth of experience and deep insights into the world of NASCAR, Blickensderfer’s vision for unleashing drivers’ skill sets could revolutionize the sport and set the stage for an electrifying future in racing.
