The U.S. Senate voted this Thursday on California’s decision to ban the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines by 2035, thus hindering a greater effort towards electric mobility.
The decision now made by the Senate aligns with the effort of U.S. President Donald Trump to double down on fossil fuels.
According to the “Associated Press,” the Senate resolution will now be approved by President Trump, along with other measures that block California’s rules to curb air pollution.
It should be noted that California represents about 11% of the U.S. automotive market, which gives it significant power to shape purchasing trends. Vehicles are one of the largest sources of emissions that contribute to global warming.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and state regulators of atmospheric conditions have already stated that the decision made by the Senate is illegal and will likely file a lawsuit to uphold the anti-pollution rules in California.
