In a major defense contract, the U.S. Army has awarded Saab an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, allowing the service to procure up to $494 million worth of Saab’s XM919 Individual Assault Munition (IAM) over the next five years. The contract underscores the Army’s commitment to enhancing soldier firepower with Saab’s AT4CS TW (Confined Space Tandem Warhead), an advanced addition to the renowned AT4 weapon family.
Revolutionizing Battlefield Munitions with the AT4CS TW
The AT4CS TW builds upon Saab’s legacy of providing reliable, battle-tested shoulder-launched munitions by integrating multiple capabilities into a single, lightweight system. This innovation reduces the logistical and training burdens on soldiers while boosting combat effectiveness.
Saab’s President and CEO in the U.S., Erik Smith, emphasized the company’s commitment to evolving its products to meet the needs of modern warfare. “At Saab, we continually adapt and improve our products to meet customer needs and protect the warfighter. Our new IAM solution enhances capabilities, removes combat burdens, and is uniquely created to meet the U.S. customer’s needs,” Smith said. He highlighted Saab’s ability to refine a proven combat system to deliver an even more effective solution tailored for the U.S. Army.
A Legacy of Proven Performance: The AT4 System
The AT4 has been a staple of U.S. Army firepower since 1985, with over 700,000 units delivered to the United States alone. Renowned for its anti-armor capabilities, the AT4 is lightweight, man-portable, and fully disposable, making it an essential asset on the battlefield. The AT4CS TW variant, specifically designed for confined spaces, offers enhanced flexibility and lethality, ensuring soldiers are equipped with the best tools for any combat scenario.
Saab’s AT4 family has been a trusted choice globally, with more than one million systems produced for 15 countries. This new contract with the U.S. Army reaffirms the AT4’s status as a premier anti-armor weapon and marks a significant step forward in modernizing the Army’s munitions arsenal.
As the U.S. Army continues to refine its operational capabilities, Saab’s AT4CS TW promises to play a pivotal role in enhancing soldier effectiveness and reducing the physical and logistical burdens on troops, setting a new standard for individual assault munitions on the battlefield.
