Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is confident that he will secure a contract extension with the team in the upcoming offseason. In an interview with Pro Football Network’s Adam Beasley, Tagovailoa expressed his belief in the deal, stating, “I believe that will happen.” However, he also mentioned that he will leave the negotiations to his agents and the team’s general manager and head coach.
Tagovailoa’s current contract will see him earn $23.17 million in the next season, thanks to the Dolphins exercising his fifth-year option. If he doesn’t reach a long-term extension with Miami, he will have the option of being tagged as a franchise player or exploring free agency after the 2024 season.
The young quarterback had a standout year in 2023, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. He threw for an impressive 4,624 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, boasting a completion rate of 69.3%. These numbers mark career highs for Tagovailoa, and he also led the NFL in passing yardage.
Despite his success, Tagovailoa remains focused on improving his game. He admitted that there are areas he wants to work on but did not disclose specifics. He expressed his excitement for the upcoming OTAs, where he and his teammates can showcase their progress.
Throughout his career, Tagovailoa has accumulated 12,639 passing yards, 81 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions in 53 games. Under his leadership, the Dolphins have achieved a 32-19 record in his 51 starts.
