Yuki Tsunoda, a Japanese driver in his fourth season with Red Bull’s second-line Formula 1 team, RB, is determined to secure a promotion to the Red Bull main team, despite rumors of a possible move elsewhere. Tsunoda had a good start to the most recent season, outperforming Daniel Ricciardo in the first two races. While Max Verstappen is committed to Red Bull until 2028, Sergio Perez is under pressure to secure a contract extension after a disappointing campaign last year. Tsunoda’s association with Honda has led to speculation that he could be an option for Aston Martin, which will receive engines from the Japanese manufacturer starting in 2026. However, Tsunoda has made it clear that his main focus is delivering strong performances on the track to put himself in contention for a promotion to the Red Bull main team. He believes that attracting interest from other teams would be a positive sign of improvement and value as a driver. Although he has not received specific targets for 2024 from Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko, Tsunoda understands that performance is key and that good results will lead to opportunities. He acknowledges that both Red Bull and himself need to prioritize their own development and rebuilding processes after a busy off-season. Tsunoda is currently focused on performing at his best on the track.

After being released by McLaren at the end of 2022, Ricciardo has consistently expressed his desire to reclaim the spot at Red Bull that he left in 2018. Tsunoda acknowledges that the Australian poses a significant threat to Perez’s position and believes he can learn from his teammate to improve his own prospects. Tsunoda recognizes that Ricciardo possesses a skill that he himself does not have, especially in terms of adjustment control, and praises his ability to provide constructive feedback without resorting to excessive shouting. The Italian teams are well aware of Ricciardo’s speed and success, and he feels more comfortable with their car compared to others. Tsunoda is eager to challenge Ricciardo and learn from him, as he believes the Australian is in excellent form. Although they may have different opinions on how to improve the car, Tsunoda is confident that they will be able to work together effectively, as Formula 1 is their shared passion. Tsunoda understands, based on his previous experience, that his main competitors are his own teammates, and he is prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
