Yuki Tsunoda, Japanese driver for RB, opened up about his experience during the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1. Tsunoda admitted that he felt a lot of pressure throughout the race and it was not a pleasant feeling. Despite this, he managed to finish in eighth place, earning valuable points for himself and his team. The race in Monte Carlo turned out to be quite monotonous, with 78 laps of procession. However, in the last three laps, Tsunoda was given the green light to accelerate and increase the distance between him and Albon. He explained that the team had a strategy in place and wanted to ensure that their competitors couldn’t take advantage of any opportunities. Tsunoda had to carefully manage his tires and pace throughout the race. Before the race, the RB team decided that Tsunoda should slow down to prevent other drivers from overtaking him and protect his starting position. Although it was not ideal for Tsunoda to not be able to push himself to the limit, he understood it was the best decision for his prospects. He had to slow down at times to ensure that the cars behind him, like Stroll, didn’t make pit stops or gain an advantage through the Safety Car. Tsunoda acknowledged that Monaco is a challenging track to overtake on and being under pressure from other drivers is never a pleasant feeling. However, he trusted the team’s decision and was happy to follow their instructions. Despite the lack of action and changes in the top 10 due to an early red flag, Tsunoda still found value in the qualifying session in Monaco. He believes that qualifying is more important than a normal race at this track and was pleased with his performance in securing a top ten position. Although the race may have been less exciting for spectators, Tsunoda understands that this is the nature of Monaco and qualifying is what makes it special.
